St. Josephs Technical Institute is a private institution owned by Fort Portal diocese. The institute is registered with Ministry of Education and Sports and is having Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) center no. 075.

Fort Portal Diocese established SJTI in the 1920s as an apprentice-training center for carpenters and builders. In the 1990s the institute acquired an electrical workshop, a classroom block, machines, tools and equipments from the German government. Recently, SJTI acquired solar equipment, computers, mechanical engineering machines and other equipment, which has boosted the Institute to be the leading provider of technical services in western Uganda.

Today SJTI provides a wide range of services. Technical training and education is one element while manufacturing, construction, service and repair, is an other.
